Writing an email to a college coach

DO’s

• Name
• Club Team
• Academics (GPA, SAT/ACT)
• Contact info - Include club and/or HS coach
• Putting Graduation Year in the Title - Ex. “John Smith – 2018 Grad”
• Attach upcoming schedule with field #, game time, jersey #, and jersey color
• Mention why you are interested or at least let it be known that you know something about the school and/or soccer program
  • “I see you have a really good Business program” or “Your teams record of 15-4 really impresses me”

DO NOT’S

• Don’t tlk in txt language, yo!
• Write a lengthy email about how hard you’ve worked since you were 4
• Put down every trophy you’ve won since U8
• Make it a general email; Get the names correct
  • “Dear coach”
• Use a weird email address

Colleges and universities that compete at the NCAA Division 1 level can offer athletic scholarships. The maximum number of scholarships per school for men is 9.9 and for women is 14. Some schools are fully funded and some are not.

Colleges and universities that compete at the NCAA Division 3 level do not have athletic scholarships. However, some of these schools do offer very good financial aid and/or academic aid packages.

Colleges and universities that compete at the NAIA level can offer athletic scholarships.  The maximum number of scholarships per school for men and women is 12.  Some schools are fully funded and others are not.

** Soccer is an EQUIVALENCY sport which means the scholarships can be divided up versus a HEAD COUNT sport like basketball where each player receiving a scholarship receives a full ride
